Remember Me Rose School Garden Award -- This award will help 20 schools establish rose gardens to commemorate the events of September 11th, 2001. Beyond their commemorative significance, each garden will also be catalyst for education in conflict resolution and mediation skills, preparing students to seek and achieve fair and peaceful solutions. Application deadline: March 1, 2005.

Youth Garden Grants -- NGA's Youth Garden Grants program, sponsored by The Home Depot, will award each of 100 schools and community programs with $500 Home Depot gift cards for the purchase of gardening materials and supplies. Application deadline: February 1, 2005.

International School Peace Gardens -- ISPG's site offers comprehensive materials from 10 years of international experience, including: guides for teachers and parents; a school peace garden registry; curriculum materials; and much more.

Positive News Youth Views -- This international online magazine and meeting space for youth interested in making change offers loads of information on the sustainability movement. Use the site's tools to produce local editions of the site's magazine, your own radio show, or to just catch up on news and network with others.

School Peace Garden Projects:

Triangle Lake Montessori Elementary School -- Learn how this school uses their peace garden and curriculum to encourage hope as the world struggles with threats of terrorism.

The Peace of the Rock -- This peace garden functions as a space for meetings and events, quiet reflection, growing nutritious fruits and vegetables, and it provides ongoing opportunities for students to work together to improve their school environment.

The Egleston Square Peace Garden -- Visit to see the "Peace Throughout History" mural, created by students and community members to pay homage to individuals and communities who work for peace.

Schoolyard Mosaics: Designing Gardens and Habitats offers how-to inspiration and advice, plus companion stories on how students in the featured schools and youth groups made decisions, built community support, and achieved learning goals. You'll also find loads of useful resources.


 

 

Steps to a Bountiful Kids' Garden -- This information-packed how-to guide contains all you need to know to launch and sustain a school or community kids' gardening program.
