Edible Fruits of the High Andes

Common name: Andean raspberry
Quechua name: Shirapoco
Spanish name: Mora, Zarza mora, Mora de castilla
Scientific name: Rubus glaucus

This plant has sharp thorns, or brambles, on its branches. It is a vigorously growing shrub which produces fruit year-round. The fruits are large (up to 3 centimeters long). When ripe, they range from dark read to nearly black in color. In addition to eating the fruit, we also grow the shrub to set up barriers.
