Why Mountains?
Mountains are found on every continent and in every climate, from tropical places, like Hawaii, to temperate ones, like Vermont. They can also be found in deserts, like those in Africa, and polar regions, like Antarctica. In fact, mountains cover almost one-fourth of the Earth's surface and can be found in 75% of the world's countries. There are many reasons why mountains are important to people. Click on the different sections of the mountain below to learn what makes them so important.
