Let's Share

Undoubtedly, you have uncovered some really interesting tidbits about the native plants in your region. Wouldn't it be great if you could share this information with your international classmates? Or with other students from around the world? You can! As part of this project, you have the chance to work with your international classmates to create a Web site that shares information about how native plants are used in all three places.

Here's how it's going to work:

  • American students will create a Web page about the use of native plants as food in the Himalayan, Andes, and Appalachian mountains.
  • Nepalese students will create a Web page about the use of native plants as medicine in the Himalayan, Andes, and Appalachian mountains.
  • Andean students will create a Web page about the use of native plants for other purposes in the Himalayan, Andes, and Appalachian mountains.

Each of these Web pages will be linked to one another, creating a Web site that will serve as a guide to the identification and use of native plants in the Himalayas, Andes, and Appalachians.

The rest is up to you. What do you want your Web page to look like? What information do you want to include? Below are some ideas to help you get your creative juices flowing. Your Web site might include:

  • Photos of the plants in their native habitat.
  • Drawings/notes from your field trip.
  • Photos of the plants after they have been prepared as food, medicine, or other useful products.
  • Profile of one of the people you interviewed.
  • Recipe/instructions for preparing one of your native plants.

The first step is to decide, as a class, what information you think is important to share about the native plants in your region. Remember that your international classmates NEED your information in order to create their own Web pages so make sure to send your information and respond to any questions they might have as soon as possible.

While you are waiting for your international classmates to share their information, decide what you want your Web page to look like. It might be a good idea to spend some time surfing the Web looking for examples of Web designs that you like.

Once you have gathered information from the two international classes and have a design in mind, you are ready to begin creating your Web page. Your teacher will help you do this.

Once the Web site is complete, spend some time looking at each of the three sections. Are there any similarities in the way the three cultures use native plants? What are the differences? Do you have any new questions you would like to ask your international classmates?
