What's in a Number?

The number of chromosomes in an organism does not indicate the complexity of the organism. It would be reasonable to assume that the cells in your body contain more chromosomes than, say, the cells in a goldfish, since you are a much more complex organism. However, this isn't the case. List: Humans...46, Mosquito...6, Cat...38, Dog...78, Corn...20, Sunflower...34, Goldfish...94, Ophioglossum reticulatum (a type of fern)...1260.
