(Article) Some of the best-known educational theorists and philosophers, dating back to the 1600s -- Rousseau, Dewey, Montessori, and others -- have championed the case for school gardens. Friedrich Froebel (1782-1852), for instance, contended that "The garden is a place to learn the consequences of one's actions in a very direct way."
