Featured Grants

"Remember Me" Rose School Garden Awards
The "Remember Me" Rose School Garden Award, sponsored by All-America Rose Selections, will help 20 schools establish rose gardens to commemorate the events of September 11th, 2001. Each program must also plan to use the garden as a catalyst for education in conflict resolution and mediation skills that prepare students to seek and achieve fair and peaceful solutions. Each winning school will receive 12 rose bushes and educational materials. Application deadline: February 28, 2007. Learn more here


Mantis Awards

Mantis announces its 2007 award program in support of charitable and educational garden programs that enhance the quality of life in their host communities. Twenty-five applicants will receive a prize: a gas-powered or electric Mantis Tiller/Cultivator. We welcome applications from all nonprofits — past winners include community gardens, schools, ministries, colleges, master gardening groups, and hospices. Application deadline: March 31, 2007. 2006 Hooked on Hydroponics Awards

This third annual award, sponsored by The Grow Store in conjunction with the Progressive Gardening Trade Association, is happy to announce this expanded grant program — the number of grants has doubled to 24! Hydroponics offers students loads of opportunities to explore concepts across the curriculum, from biology to economics. Each winning program will receive a hydroponics package that fits its classroom space and includes everything required grow plants successfully indoors. Application deadline: September 30, 2007. Wild Oats Gardening with Kids Awards ~ Deadline Extended: February 1, 2007
When kids grow and prepare their own fruits and veggies, they receive better nutrition and learn important life skills. This award, sponsored by Wild Oats Markets, Inc., helps children do just that! Award packages include gardening and supplies, kitchen equipment, curricula, and a cooking lesson/demo. Find Fruitful Classroom Exchanges

Now is a good time to find other classrooms to connect with in the school year to come. Our School Garden Registry is rife with requests to exchange stories, seeds, project ideas, and more. Browse for classrooms, or check out these brand new entries:

The Renaissance School (AL) – Students in this K-8 school are new to gardening and would love to share stories, data, and more.

P.S.222 (NY) - Elementary students at this urban school want to share stories of habitat experiences with schools in other settings.

Treasure Coast Elementary (FL) - Third graders are involved in a campus-wide beautification project and want 3rd-grade pals from another region with whom to share stories.

Col. Johnson Elementary (AZ) – Children at this military base school come from all over the world. They're interested in swapping seeds and experimental data from their gardens and habitat.

Two Rivers Community Charter School (NC) – Primary students (K-4) are now enjoying gardening in their cold frame. They'd like to exchange seeds, weather observation, plants, data, and experiences.

Negley Elementary (TX) – Students in grades K-8 are looking for others to teleconference with! They're also interested in swapping data, seeds, and habitat experiences.
