Growing Food: Introducing Kids to Food Systems

Used by permission of
Hampstead Hill Academy

Most youth are physically and psychological distanced from our food origins – an unfortunate fact, considering that they depend on it to nourish their bodies and minds! Many of us are trying to fill this gap by providing hands-on gardening experiences, and there’s a new resource to help us in this quest. The LiFE curriculum series was created by Teachers College Columbia University to give upper elementary and middle school students a in-depth view and experience of food systems. Learn more about the creation of the inquiry-based curriculum and check out a sample lesson in this month's Teachers' Room!

Background and Sample Activity

LiFE's Origins – Learn how the series was born from the goal of inspiring students with the wonders of science while conveying essential knowledge about our food system.
