Greening Your Classroom

In many parts of the country, the landscape is resting up for a dazzling spring show. If you can’t wait for the return of green, create spring indoors with houseplants. They filter the air, lift our moods, and with this month's lessons, provide valuable hands-on learning, too.

Background and Lessons

The Roots of Indoor Greening – A little history on life before houseplants, and what indoor green can do for our health and happiness.

Basic Indoor Plant Care – Houseplants are hardy and great for the classroom. Here are some simple instructions for keeping them happy.

Easy Classroom Houseplants – Some tried-and-true favorites for students.

Lesson: Plant Propagation Basics – Students make many cuttings from a single stock plant, learning science and horticulture along along the way.

Lesson: Cultivating Funds with Indoor Plants – Students will set up an indoor plant business to raise funds for school garden projects,
and learn horticulture and business skills.
